THE LANDSCAPE OF OPEN SCIENCE IN LATVIA: RESEARCH AND MAPPING RESULTS

In fall 2019 the Ministry of Education and Science commissioned an Open Science policy research in order to map existing Open Science landscape and actors, to develop a roadmap for implementing Open Science in Latvia and to make recommendations for a national Open Science policy. The team of 10 researchers were formed including experts from the National Library of Latvia, Riga Technical University (incl. EOSC Nordic project members), Riga Stradins University and the Open Science expert from the EIFL consortium.

During the research (Jan – June 2020) the existing international and national situation and developments of Open Science (including Open Access, Open Data and Citizen science) were described. During the COVID shutdown the researchers managed to conduct 40 interviews with 63 representatives covering wide spectrum of roles (researchers, research managers, policy makers, librarians, publishers, IT experts), types of organizations (large and small HE and research institutions, private companies) and field of science (STEM and HSS). The mapping of existing scientific institutions, publishers and scientific journals were performed.

The final report (in Latvian) was published on June 2020. This presentation will cover the most important results and findings as well as selected recommendations for academic library community.
